KOCHI: The high court has asked to immediately stop the wet filling of the Marthandam Lake, and ordered the concerned departments to strictly follow the stop memo issued by the Thasildhar on this.

Justice P B Suresh Kumar has also demanded a report explaining the actions taken on this, when the case will be considered again within the next 10 days.

Meanwhile, the government has submitted a report at the court about the encroachment of lake. The advocate general who appeared for the government has informed the court that instructions have been given out to bring back all the wet filled land into its initial state.

It’s the petition given by Allapuzha Kainagiri panchayat member B K Vinod that’s in consideration at the court. He had clarified in his petition that the lake was encroached by Water World Tourism Ltd. owned by Thomas Chandy, and that the village officer had issued a stop memo against wet filling of the land.

The petition further mentions demands like the government must reclaim the encroached land, to cancel the title deed of the land illegally owned, and to restore the lake and include it in the data bank.
