THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has given explanation to Governor Justice P Sathasivam  over the Ordinance that reduces the tenure of Devaswom Board members from three years to two years.

The governor had earlier asked the government to clarify whether the Ordinance was legally valid. Following this, the government gave a reply to the Government via law secretary on Monday.

There are also information that Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran met the governor in person and convinced him of the reason for bringing out the Ordinance. The government explanation is that existing administrative members lacked competency. Misappropriation of funds, dereliction of duty and negligence were other reasons pointed out for removing the existing members.
Maintaining that earlier governments had also made such changes, the government rejected the allegation that the Ordinance would affect Sabarimala pilgrimage. “All preparations for Sabarimala pilgrimage have been completed. And an IAS officer will be appointed as special Commissioner,” the government added.
