THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president M M Hassan has rang up senior Supreme Court advocate and Congress MP Vivek Tankha to ask him not to appear for Transport Minister Thomas Chandy in the case relating to the minister’s backwater encroachment.

Hassan has informed him that it’d be undesirable for a Congress MP to appear for Thomas Chandy when the party is staging protests in Kerala seeking the minister’s resignation. He has also told the advocate that this puts the entire Congress leadership in Kerala under a crisis and hence should back off from appearing for Thomas Chandy at the court. Hassan has also said that he has already informed about the same to the high command.

Nevertheless, Tankha rejected Hassan’s request saying that he’s appearing for Thomas Chandy in his professional capacity.

The Division-Bench of the Kerala High Court will be considering the petition submitted by Thomas Chandy against the Alappuzha district collector’s report stating that the minister has encroached on backwater, and also the various petitions submitted against the minister, on Tuesday.
