         Kollam sailor goes missing at sea    
KOLLAM: Tension gripped the family members of a 21-year-old sailor, Abhinand Yesudasan, from Perumbuzha in the district when it was reported that he had gone missing while on duty on board a ship that was sailing from Egypt to Saudi Arabia.

         Nuns get anticipatory bail    
KOCHI: Two nuns, accused in the Kottiyoor sexual harassment case, were on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court. The sixth accused Sr Lissie Maria and the seventh accused Sr Aneeta George were granted anticipatory bail.

         Sub Inspector suspended    
KOZHIKODE: Sub Inspector K Mohandas, attached to the Nadakkavu police station, was on Tuesday placed under suspension for allegedly assaulting a civil police officer (CPO) in an inebriated state on a train last week.

         Youth arrested    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pettah police on Tuesday arrested a youth in connection with the alleged suicide of a minor girl. According to Pettah Circle Inspector A S Suresh Kumar, the accused has been identified as Sajilal of Kakkode Lane in Pettah.

         Head Master charged with child sexual abuse    
KANNUR: Valapattanam police arrested a 53-year-old school head master, in connection with alleged sexual abuse of an eight-year-old girl, who was a third standard student in a school at Kattampally.

         Special team to probe death of youth at medical college    
KOCHI: A two-member team from the Kottayam Medical College arrived at the Government Medical College, Ernakulam to inquire into the death of a 23-year-old youth, Jerin Michael, who collapsed and died at the hospital late on Saturday night.

         Portuguese national shifted to Viyyur jail    
KOCHI: The 23-year-old Portuguese national who trespassed on the Siva temple premises in Ernakulam has been shifted to the Central Prison, Viyyur, in Thrissur.

         Lineman electrocuted    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 41-year old lineman of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) was electrocuted during work near Aryanad on Monday. According to the police, the dead has been identified as Saji Kumar of Companymukku in Aryanad.

KOCHI: The probe into the gang rape of a 26-year-old woman at an apartment in Palarivattom has taken a new turn with a police re-probe pointing to the victim falling prey to a sex racket. According to officials, investigations revealed that the woman was taken to an apartment from where a sex racket was being operated by her relatives.

         Fire breaks out near Maradu market    
KOCHI: A fire broke out near the agricultural urban wholesale market here on Saturday. No casualties were reported. According to the Fire and Rescue department, they received an alert call on the blaze around 11.20 a.m. Two fire tenders from the Gandhinagar fire station were pressed into service and it took the officials about two hours to douse the flames.

         Tourist drowns    
KOZHIKODE: A 21-year-old tourist from Rajasthan drowned in the Arippara waterfalls on Saturday. The police identified the dead as Rajath Sarma. He met with the accident while bathing with his friends, the police said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A special court here on Saturday denied anticipatory bail to two former office-bearers of the State Child Welfare Council. They are former CWC general secretary Sunil C Kurien and member Chempazhanthy Anil.

         30 lakh worth demonetized notes seized    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Demonetized currency notes worth Rs 30 lakh were seized by Neyyattinkara police from a car at Amaravila near Neyyattinkara. Three persons were arrested on the charges of possessing illegal currency.

         Man held for rape    
KOCHI: The Infopark police arrested a 30-year-old-man for allegedly raping and defrauding three women with whom he shared an apartment at Kakkanad. Guruvayur native Unnikrishnan alias Kannan was taken into custody on the basis of a complaint registered by a relative of one of the victims.

         State won't use more water than given under Cauvery award    
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court asked Kerala to write to Tamil Nadu government stating that it has no intention to utilize Cauvery water more than what has been allocated to it under the award by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

It has been alleged that Dr Nair had pursued an LLB course and a postgraduate programme at a time in violation of the university statute.

KOZHIKODE: A 65-year-old retired army man has been was booked on the charges of raping a differently abled woman at Kunnummal grama panchayat here. Koyyorath Kunhiraman, the accused in the case, is reportedly missing after he was charged under Section 375 (Punishment for Rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

         HC seeks CBI stand in Kalabhavan Mani case    
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the CBI to inform the court of its stand on taking over of the investigation into the death of film actor Kalabhavan Mani. The directive was passed on a petition filed by Mani’s brother K R Ramakrishnan seeking a CBI probe.

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the BJP and the RSS are not undefeatable and that people of India will win the fight against communalism. Addressing a public rally of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) here, he said that in the wake of the results of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, many people expressed the opinion that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are undefeatable. He, however, did not agree with this.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has ordered a probe into the death of a 31-year-old pregnant Dalit woman, allegedly due to medical negligence, a year ago.
