         One taken into custody in murder case    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One person has been taken into custody by the Nemom police in connection with the alleged murder of a policeman late on Sunday. While the police are yet to reveal the identity of the person, he is believed to be a relative of the dead, Raveendran, who was found dead behind his house in Punnamoodu.

 
         Airline directed to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation    
 
KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Jet Lite India Pvt. Ltd. to pay a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to a passenger for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. The forum also ordered that Rs 5,000 be paid as cost of the proceedings to the passenger.

 
         N K Gopalan passes away    
 
ALAPPUZHA: N K Gopalan, veteran of the historic Punnapra-Vayalar uprising and leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI), died here on Sunday. He was 93. Gopalan became a trade unionist while working in Aspinwall Company.

 
         Youth killed in accident    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth was killed after he lost control of his scooter near Kilimanoor. The police identified the victim as Shyam Kumar, 25, of Koduvazhannoor in Pulimath.

 
         Policeman found dead    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A policeman attached to the Armed Reserve Camp in the city was found dead with severe head injuries behind his house near Nemom late Sunday. The dead was identified as Raveendran, 45, of Varuvila, Punnamoodu.

ALAPPUZHA: Timely intervention by the Fire and Rescue Services averted a major fire at Vadackal, near Punnapra, after plastic materials stored at a plastic recycling unit went up in flames.

         CPM office attacked in Kanjirapally    
 
KOTTAYAM: The Kanjirapally area committee office of the CPM was attacked by a group of unidentified persons early Tuesday morning. They threw a crude bomb around 1 am, and the fire spread in the office. Windowpanes got damaged in the stoning. Police said it was "an object similar to that of a petrol bomb" and booked unidentified persons for the crime.
