         Islamic group seeks probe into police action    
 
KOZHIKODE: Leaders of the Wisdom Global Islamic Mission have sought a probe into the communalisation of the police department, which, they claim, led to the arrest of 39 of their activists in Ernakulam on the charge of distributing pamphlets with the intention of disrupting communal harmony.

 
         CPO found hanging    
 
KOZHIKODE: T M Bijula, a civil police officer (CPO) attached to the Atholy police station, who had been undergoing treatment for kidney ailment, was found dead at her house on Monday morning.

 
         Leopard trapped    
 
KOCHI: A leopard that had strayed into the Eucalyptus plantations of Athirappilly was caught in a trap set up by forest officials. The leopard, a male aged about six years, was reportedly first spotted near the Edamalayar canal by a local when it had killed his cattle.

 
         Man drowns in Vembanad    
 
KOCHI: A 63-year-old man drowned in Vembanad Lake in Thoppumpadi harbour on Monday. The dead has been identified as Ebron of Kulachal in Kanyakumari, an employee of a fishing boat.

KOZHIKODE: Air Customs officials at the Calicut International Airport on Saturday seized gold worth Rs 50 lakh from a passenger coming from Dubai. He was identified as Abdul Salam of Maloor, Sivapuram in Kannur.

KOCHI: The Ernakulam Rural police arrested 39 persons on charges of distributing pamphlets with the alleged intention of spreading communal disharmony.

KASARAGOD: Muhammed Mashook, a 13-year-old student, who was involved in a car and motorcycle collision at Uppala in the district, died at a hospital in Mangaluru.

PATHANAMTHITTA: A 55-year old Sabarimala pilgrim, identified as Palani Thankam from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, died of heart attack while climbing the Appachimedu hill on the Pampa-Sannidhanam trekking path on Sunday.
