THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A family has registered a case of medical negligence against Gowreesha Hospital, Pattom, after a child was born with deformities despite the mother undergoing regular scans there. The male child born to Bineesh, 26, and Lavanya, 22, of Karichal near Aryanad did not have the left hand.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police arrested Vinod, 28, a native of Usilampatti, Tamil Nadu, with three kilos of ganja that he was preparing to hand over to dealers here.

 
         Four held for assaulting woman    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Mannanthala police arrested four men, including a policeman on charges of assaulting a grocery shop owner and her son. The police identified the accused as Kiran Kumar (30), Prasanth (29), Antony Varghese (29) and Shaju S Miranda (37), all residents of Kudappanakkunnu.

KASARGOD: An altercation between two groups over property dispute culminated in a youth sustaining critical stab injuries inside a house at Perla. Ibrahim Khalil, 25, son of Aboobecker, a resident of Kandige locality at Perla, falling under Badiadukka police station limits, was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Fort police for allegedly sexually abusing a minor. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Manikantan of Kottakkakam.

 
         Sex racket busted, six held    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Six persons, including three women, alleged to be part of a sex racket operating in Aruvikkara, were nabbed by the police on Sunday. The accused were identified as Sreejith, 24, of Uriyakode; Manju, 25, of Peroorkada; Rahul, 24, of Kamaleshwaram; Sheeja, 37, of Chirakkulam near Vanchiyoor; Vijayakumar, 55, of Vellanad; and Priya, 31, of Parassala.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police have deployed additional reinforcements at Vellayani where an argument over raising flags has snowballed into a tension among RSS-BJP and CPI (M) activists. The controversy cropped up at the Vellayani Devi Temple which has been celebrating the Kaliyoottu festival.

ALUVA: In a freak accident, an 83-year-old woman drowned after a car slipped from a jhankar ferry into the Periyar near Aluva on Saturday. The dead was identified as Kadeeja Beevi, a native of Purayar. The victim was on her way to Aluva after attending a funeral at Neduvannur when tragedy struck at Thottumugham jetty around 2.45 pm.

 
         Actress molestation case: Took best foot forward; probe on, says DGP    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after popular Malayalam actress was allegedly raped by her driver in Ernakulam, the Director General of Police (DGP) Loknath Behera said they are investigating the case, adding they would get back to media after detailed study of the case.

KASARGOD: A 37-year-old merchant ended his life by hanging from a hoarding near a highway at Cheliyankode on Wednesday. The dead has been identified as Chandrasekharan, a resident of Aramanganam, near Uduma, who is running a bakery near the KSRTC depot here.

KASARAGOD: A youth was killed and his relative suffered critical injuries when the car they were travelling collided head-on with a truck on the national highway at the district’s southern border town of Pilicode, near Cheruvathur, on Wednesday.

KOCHI: Customs officers at the International Airport here have seized gold worth around Rs 20 lakh from two passengers. In the first case, they recovered 466.5 gram of gold from one Noushad of Kasargode, who landed here from Sharjah.

 
         Man electrocuted during work    
 
IDUKKI: A tile worker was electrocuted while working for a building at Thodupuzha on Tuesday. The police said that Ernakulam Kumbalangi resident Kootuparambil Anson, 36, was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire during work.
