         Ten injured in accident    
ALAPPUZHA: At least 10 people were injured in a head-on collision between a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus and a lorry on the National Highway 66 at Danappadi, near Haripad.

         Woman trampled to death by elephant    
IDUKKI: A woman working on a cardamom estate was seriously injured when she was attacked by a wild elephant at Kurangupara, near Rajakkad.

         Man held under KAAPA    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cantonment police arrested a habitual offender under the Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA). The accused has been identified as Prabhith of Rajaji Nagar. Placed under preventive detention under the Act for the fourth time, he had been previously booked for murder, attempt to murder, theft, assault, and manufacture of explosives.

         Student found hanging    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 23-year-old college student was found hanging at his house. The dead was identified as M Anu, son of Manikuttan of Kattayil, Cheeranikkara, in the Vattapara police station limits.

         Order to register case against collector    
IDUKKI: The Devikulam Magistrate ordered registration of a case against District Collector G R Gokul on a complaint filed by Ponkunnam Vazhoor resident Shiju Jacob.

         Sentence in graft case upheld    
KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has upheld the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court verdict awarding one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4,000 to a policeman in a corruption case.

ALAPPUZHA: A devotee died after falling from a chariot during a procession organised as part of the annual festival at the Devikulangara temple near Kayamkulam.

ALAPPUZHA: Veteran volleyball coach and SNDP Yogam leader Kalavoor N Gopinath died here. He was 82. Gopinath was best known as mentor to volleyball greats such as Jimmy George, K Udayakumar and Shyam Sundar Rao.

KOCHI: In a significant verdict, the Kerala High Court has ruled that women contract employees working in government funded projects are entitled to 26 weeks of maternity leave as applicable to women employees under the service rules.

KOLLAM: Unidentified persons broke open a private bank ATM and robbed around Rs 6 lakh here on Sunday. The ATM near Ganapathy Temple at Thazhuthala, Kottiyam, was found forced open with the money missing when the police arrived.

KOCHI: N R Menon, 76, one of the pioneers in fisheries oceanography and a former director of the School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT), passed away here on Sunday.

         Woman found dead    
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman was found dead in a quarry pond near Thumba on Sunday. The police identified the dead as Leela, 57, of Manvila. The body was found by local residents in the pond at Pullukad by around 12 noon.

         Two arrested on charge of chain snatching    
KOCHI: The Aluva West Police arrested two youths on the charge of chain snatching. The arrested are 19-year old Akshay and Akhilan, both natives of Karumaloor.

KANNUR: Police seized Rs 94 lakh hawala money and arrested two persons after conducting as many raids at Kunnoth near Iritty. The arrested, who were coming from Karnataka in tourist buses, have been identified as K C Sonimon (35) of Ulikkal in Kannur district and Muhammed Anshad (24) of Nilambur in Malappuram.
