THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 25-year-old man went missing off the coast of the Eve’s beach at Kovalam after he went swimming in the ocean with two others on Sunday evening. The person was identified as Al Amin, a resident of Poonthura.

 
         Two pedestrians killed at Ochira    
 
KOLLAM: Two men were killed when a driver of a car lost control of the vehicle and knocked them down early on Sunday on the National Highway near Oachira. Those killed were identified as Jalaudeen Kunju, 68, a scrap dealer and Vishwanathan 64, who runs a cycle repair shop.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Medical College police on Saturday arrested Anil Kumar, 41, in connection with the theft of CCTV cameras installed at houses in Pattom. He was accused of stealing cameras from houses located near hospitals, which were usually rented out to natives of Mali who came for treatment.

KOCHI: The police have traced the mother of the infant who was found abandoned near Kalamassery last week, and intensified search for the father aged around 23 years. The police have traced the mother, who is a minor, to a municipality adjoining the city.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A medical student was found hanging in his house at Varkala on Tuesday morning. Nidhin, son of Jayesh and Shiji of Kannampara, near Varkala, was found hanging in his bedroom just before noon, the police said, adding that a suicide was suspected.

KOCHI: A 15-year-old boy, who was hit by a speeding private bus near Kuzhupilli bridge at Vypeen, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday as angry residents resorted to blocking of traffic demanding strict action against the “killer buses”.

KOCHI: The Nedumbassery police have arrested a 34-year-old West Bengal native on charge of murdering an Odisha native. The arrested man was identified as Benu Das, a native of Murshidabad. Benu Das allegedly murdered Ashok Patra, a contract employee with the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) Golf Course.

KOCHI: Customs Air Intelligence officials at the Nedumbassery airport on Monday foiled yet another attempt to smuggle gold and seized the yellow metal worth Rs 21 lakh from an international flier.

IDUKKI: A person who suffered serious injuries in a road accident at Puliyanmala, near Kattappana, on Sunday evening died on Monday. The victim was Shahina Beegum, 22, wife of Pandalam resident Muttar Koottupalakuzhiyil Shaji.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thampanoor police on Sunday arrested a habitual offender who had been declared ‘absconding’ after failing to appear in the court for trial in an earlier case. The police identified the accused as Chandran alias Ripper Chandran. He was previously arrested in connection with a theft case in 2009.
